THE Moore River South development has been an ongoing battle for a number of residents who are continuing to lobby MPs in a bid to have the development proposal withdrawn.
Eleven petitions have been presented to State Parliament this year, adding to the dozens previously presented, as the Friends of Moore River Group aims to raise awareness of the development.
Group spokesperson Linda Johnson said it was waiting for the developers, the Moore River Company, to submit its outline development plan to the Gingin Shire for the third time.
Mrs Johnson said the group was hopeful that the company’s next bid would also be rejected by the shire on the grounds that it was contrary to the Gingin Coast Structure Plan. The group will continue to collect signatures to take to Parliament.
The Moore River Company website details its proposal as comprising 557ha of residential development with the potential for up to 2000 homes.
The most recent petition asks the State Government buy the land adjoining the Wilbinga Conservation Park on the south side of the river.
The petition reads that it should be ‘managed in perpetuity for the benefit the whole community, for the protection of the estuary of the Moore River.’
