The following is a transcript of the conversation between the Premier, Mr Colin Barnett, and John Prince on ABC Radio 10th February 2010:
John Prince:
Thank you Mr Premier for making yourself available to answer questions [acknowledged]. I want to ask you how you, as a democratically elected Premier of a democratically governed state, could have allowed your cabinet to decide that 2000 homes can be developed on the South side of the Moore River estuary, without any process of prior consultation with a local community known to be totally opposed to the project.
The Premier:
John, that development to the south is not on the bank, it's over the hill. It goes back what 15 years, 20 years, it's been around a long long time, as long as I can remember. The current Planning Minister, Mr John Day has scaled back the proposal quite dramatically; it is not on the Moore River, it is well back probably a kilometre or so - I might be wrong about that - but it is well back and it is about half or a third the size of what was originally proposed.
John Prince:
Yes, but Mr Premier, the developer has stated that that is the initial part of the development, so it can then spread to the Moore River in due course.
The Premier:
No, no it can't spread to the Moore River; that area will not be developed.
Host:
John thank you for your question. Premier thank you for coming in today.....
Footnote:
John Prince has now written to the Premier seeking confirmation of the final statement he made.
