FOMRE - Newsletter September 2011
MOORE RIVER SOUTH DEVELOPMENT:
The wait is nearly over!
The anticipated release of the outline development plan (ODP) for the south side of the Moore River is imminent.
The Moore River Company (MRC) requested the Shire of Gingin consent to the ODP being put out for public comment on September 26th 2011. The Shire however, was not satisfied with the plan before them and stipulated certain amendments and indicated the ODP would only be released in its entirety. Therefore the public will have access to the ODP on the completion of these adjustments. We anticipate the date will be soon.
Following release we have 42 days available to us for the opportunity to comment.
MRC is also required to conduct a public forum approximately two weeks after the release date. It is important to attend this event. Numbers will count and we urge all FOMRE members and interested individuals to attend. It is important that the Shire and the developers see that there is strong public interest in the future use of this area.
We will keep you posted.
OTHER NEWS:
The TPS 9 and LPS submissions have been collected and collated by the shire of Gingin. Many submissions were received. The results of these will be presented to the Shire Council on October 4th by Lisa Edwards - Executive Manager, Planning and Development. It will be interesting to see the breadth of comment received and their summarisation by the Shire.
Refer to the Shire's website for the most recent information. Submission summaries will be there under Council Meeting Minutes a few days after they are presented.
Shire of Gingin elections are to be held on October 7th. While Guilderton ward Sam Collard and Woodridge ward Alan Alderson are standing unopposed, a new shire president and council are yet to be determined. The restructured Council's response to the ODP remains to be seen.
Conservation Week will be held over the week October 15th to the 22nd. In conjunction with this occasion the Conservation Council of Western Australia (CCWA) will put up a series of stalls in Murray Street on Monday the 17th of October. FOMRE will be hosting one of these on the day. Our aim for this event is to refresh public awareness that the Moore River remains at risk from inappropriate development. We will be using our banners and brochures as well as several maps to highlight our cause. Petitions will continue to be distributed. Of course we need as many people as possible to help out on this day. If you can spare a half hour or more to help we would be very happy to see you. If not please drop by to say hello. All other ideas that we can use to draw attention to the Moore River will be willingly listened to. Please contact us if you have suggestions or can offer time.
Thank you for your ongoing interest and support.
